PokeBonk Evolution: Conditions & Run Progress

Current source scope: Beta v0.7.3 · Checked October 19, 2026

THE QUICK ANSWER

Evolution is a level-triggered change within a run. Current client values put Bulbasaur at levels 24 and 41, Charmander and Squirtle at 24 and 44; some Pokémon have explicit overrides. Evolving does not automatically unlock a new League starting partner or preserve the run’s level for the next start.

What triggers and confirms the change?

Gain levels within the run until an eligible evolution’s planned threshold is reached. Check the resulting form and the evolution choice or display; a threshold in a data table is not evidence that a disconnected run saved. The current client’s planning function applies explicit League overrides before its generic level formula.

That detail matters for Caterpie and Weedle, whose two thresholds are 8 and 36; Omanyte and Kabuto use 40, and Magikarp uses 40. Older summaries that applied only the generic formula gave different numbers. Eevee offers Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon at 36, so the first branch in a data list is not an automatic forced evolution.

Rows are derived from the current client’s planning function, explicit partner overrides and Kanto evolution links. They describe eligible transitions from current League partners. A partner without a row has no later Kanto transition in this scope. Main-series stones, friendship, trading or levels should not be imported as this game’s requirements.

What carries into the next run?

The form and level are part of the current run. Your League’s unlocked starting partners, collection progress and Lab upgrades are a different progression layer. Check unlock versus evolution before assuming a Charizard appearance means Charizard is now a separate starting slot.

Evolution can contribute to achievement counters, including evolving once and evolving ten times. The next start does not inherit the previous run’s combat level simply because an achievement was earned.

Version and recording differences

An earlier official patch removed the need to wait for a later zone for final evolution. The level reference here follows the v0.7.3 client checked October 19, rather than a universal rule for every older beta. The move panel can preview evolution-related move information; use the live move panel for your available choices.

The optional recording below illustrates a creator’s historical run. Its cover shows a Charmander-to-Charizard progression, but the cover alone does not verify the current trigger level, timing or a reproducible build.
