PokeBonk Starter Pokémon: Compare Your First Partner
Current source scope: Beta v0.7.3 · Checked October 19, 2026
THE QUICK ANSWER
The first-partner screen offers Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Choose Bulbasaur for its explicit healing tools, Charmander for a Fire-focused kit, or Squirtle for armor and shield. These are passive-based choices; the evidence does not establish a fastest or strongest starter.

Compare the current partner cards
The table follows the current public client’s three first-partner records. Each kit lists its four themed moves; learning availability and equipped capacity are separate in the move guide. Bulbasaur combines physical Grass moves with a special finisher. Charmander’s listed moves are special Fire attacks. Squirtle’s Rapid Spin is a physical Normal move inside an otherwise Water-focused kit.

Choose the advantage you want to understand first
The low-HP bonuses describe activation conditions, not a reason to deliberately take damage. None of the cards proves how often a new player will stay alive or finish a region. Recovery and defense also solve different problems: regeneration needs time to help, while armor and shield affect incoming pressure.
For a first build, match item effects to the moves you actually have. Charcoal suits Fire moves; Mystic Water suits Water moves; Miracle Seed suits Grass moves. The starter build examples show tradeoffs, including Squirtle’s mixed damage categories.
| If you want… | Consider | What the passive actually offers |
|---|---|---|
| More recovery while learning | Bulbasaur | 1.5 regeneration and 25% more healing; Grass hits heal 0.4% max HP, up to five triggers per second. |
| A consistent damage theme | Charmander | 10% Fire damage, with a further 40% damage below 40% HP. |
| An explicit defensive buffer | Squirtle | 15 armor and 20 shield, with 40% extra damage below 40% HP. |
Your first choice and the other two partners
The selected partner becomes your first League member. The current roster gives the other starter entries the challenge “Complete 2 runs (win or lose).” Completing a challenge and encountering or capturing the Pokémon are distinct stages; read the padlock text in the League and follow the unlock flow. A loss can count toward this particular run-completion challenge.
Evolution is temporary run progress rather than another initial partner selection. The current planned levels are Bulbasaur → Ivysaur at 24 → Venusaur at 41; Charmander and Squirtle evolve at 24 and 44. These differ from the main series. See the evolution table for the current client scope.
